Vaccinations play a key role in protecting your pet by building immunity against many infectious diseases. It is far easier, and more cost effective to vaccinate a healthy pet than to try to treat a sick one. The annual visit for vaccination also provides a good opportunity to monitor your pets overall health.
Dogs are vaccinated against parvovirus, canine distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, leptospirosis and bordetella. Initially puppies need a course of 2-3 vaccinations given a month apart, the number depending on the age the first vaccination is given. We aim to give the minimal amount of vaccination required to provide a good level of immunity.
Cats are vaccinated annually against feline panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus. The initial course for young kittens is two vaccinations one month apart. Also available is a vaccination against FIV, the feline aids virus. If you are interested in this for your cat please contact us for more information.
It is important to remember that Boarding facilities and Doggy Daycare centres require pets to have current vaccinations; so if you are planning a trip away check with us that your pet is up to date.
