We have the ability to use x-rays for diagnostic imaging of the animal’s body. An automatic processor allows immediate development and consistent film quality.
This allows us to diagnose fractures of bones and dislocations of joints quickly and stabilise them and either treat them ourselves or refer the animal for internal fixation using a variety of implants including plates, stainless steel wire, bone pins and screws.
Radiology also allows us to rule out bone cancer and assess the severity of degenerative joint disease or spinal problems that are causing the pain and deformity.
Abdominal and chest radiography enable diagnosis of abnormalities in organs in those body cavities.
Diagnostic imaging such as abdominal ultrasound and echocardiography of the heart as well as CT or MRI cases are referred to Dr Karl Mathis at the Animal Referral Centre in Albany.
We also have Digital x-ray capability for dental radiology and this is a routine procedure for dental surgical cases.
