Dental care is just as important for our pets as it is for us humans. Every time your pet has a meal, a layer of invisible plaque develops on their teeth. Over time this plaque hardens into calculus that provides the ideal environment for bacteria to grow. This bacterial growth not only damages teeth, it can also spread through your pet’s blood stream to affect heart and liver health.
Some of the possible signs of dental problems are:
- Bad/Smelly Breath
- Discolouration of teeth
- Inflamed/bleeding gums
- Chewing on only one side of the mouth
- Dropping food while eating
- Swelling on the face
- Fractured or chipped teeth
Unfortunately animals often show no outward signs that there is a significant problem.
At Belmont Vet Clinic we have a range of modern equipment to help keep your pet’s mouth healthy:
- Ultrasonic descaler
- Digital dental x-ray
- IM3 High speed LED Drill
- IM3 Low speed Polishing Head
Animals are maintained on an IV drip and will be administered with appropriate pain relief following their treatment.
We will have a look at your pet’s teeth when they come in for their regular health checks.
