Our Vet
Mark Turnwald BVSc MACVSc(Veterinary Behaviour)
Born and raised in Castor Bay on the North Shore, Mark brings over 40 years of veterinary experience, having graduated from Massey University in 1982.
After working as a vet in the UK and practicing in Devonport for six years, Mark founded the Belmont Vet Clinic in 1996, where he continues to provide dedicated care for the communities of Takapuna and Devonport.
Mark especially enjoys soft tissue surgery and companion animal medicine. His interest in Veterinary Behaviour is stimulated daily as his nurses handle animals and together they limit the anxiety associated with veterinary visits with their competent approach and reinforcement of calm settled behaviour often when the pet has some painful condition that requires diagnosis and treatment.
Veterinary Nurses
Kate Fox – Veterinary Nurse
Since joining Belmont Vet Clinic in early 2020, Kate has become an invaluable part of our team, bringing both skill and warmth to her role. She is currently studying at Massey University and is in her fourth year.
At home, Kate has her hands full with two lively young cats, Buster and Quizzical, whom she’s training to perform a few tricks! When she’s not at the clinic, she enjoys catching up with family and friends and immersing herself in her studies
Maia Hemopo – Veterinary Nurse
Maia joined our team in late 2020, starting as an after-school assistant and quickly growing into a dependable, experienced vet nurse. She is currently with us part-time while pursuing her first year of Business studies at the University of Auckland.
At home, Maia stays busy with her three lovable cats—Buttons, Ella, and Dior. Away from her role at the clinic, you’ll likely find her staying active at the gym or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
Ashleigh Dyet – Veterinary Nurse
Ashleigh has had a lifelong passion for working with animals, both big and small. She graduated from Massey University in 2023 with a BSc in Zoology and is now broadening her hands-on experience by working with a variety of animal types and observing diverse medical cases.
At home, Ashleigh has a short-haired cat named Smoko, the adored “princess” of the household. Outside of clinic hours, she enjoys exploring bush walks, unwinding with a good book, and expressing her creativity through painting.
Carry Chen– Veterinary Nurse Assistant
Carry joined our clinic in mid-2024 after graduating from Unitec in 2023 with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. Building on the skills she gained during her studies, Carry’s passion for animal care is what drives her in this rewarding career.
At home, she has a handsome British Shorthair named Fulin who keeps her company. Outside of work, Carry enjoys spending time with family, bonding with Fulin, and discovering great local restaurants.
