We have the ability to treat skin and small oral lesions with liquid nitrogen. This effectively kills undesirable tissue, such as skin cancer cells or small growths, and resolves to leave minimal scarring relative to surgical excision. Animals are treated under general anaesthetic and pain relief is given after the procedure. Within a short period of time the treated area becomes non painful, healing uneventfully, and after 2-3 weeks only normal healthy scar tissue remains.
Advantages include minimal pain and discomfort as well as minimal post-operative bleeding and scarring. It is ideal for early skin cancer on areas such as the cat nose.
Our clinic has a sophisticated cryospray tool that enables accurate and precise application of liquid nitrogen to the area to be treated, thus avoiding excessive or inadequate freezing of affected tissue.
